Researchers in Spain have developed a new fruit called “Bombaits,” described as “grape on the outside and red berry on the inside,” combining delicious taste with rich health benefits.

This product features a dark red flesh resembling cherries, indicating high levels of “anthocyanin,” a plant pigment known for its heart benefits and chronic disease prevention. Bombaits also contain three times the amount of “resveratrol” found in blueberries, a compound linked to anti-aging and reduced cancer risk.

Tests conducted by the AINIA Technology Center in Valencia revealed that the natural sugars in this fruit are absorbed more slowly than usual, which may help improve blood sugar levels, support weight control, and enhance insulin response.

Nutritionist Nisa Aslam, a member of the Red Berry Grape advisory board, explains that the phenol blend in Bombaits alters sugar absorption mechanisms, reducing their negative effects despite the sweet taste.

Although the fruit looks like traditional black grapes, a single bite reveals its red flesh. Its developers confirm it combines the pleasure of classic grapes with additional benefits from its rich red color.

Nutritionist Nicola Ludlam-Rein points out that color diversity in fruits and vegetables reflects their nutritional value, adding that consuming red and purple foods rich in anthocyanins contributes to heart health and diabetes prevention.

Like traditional grapes, the product is recommended to be stored in the refrigerator and washed before eating, with an added consumer-friendly feature: it is seedless.
