Brazilian coach Rogério Micale, former head coach of the Olympic national team, denied recent rumors about entering negotiations with Al Ahly club to take over as head coach, replacing Spaniard José Ribeiro.
Al Ahly had terminated its contract with Ribeiro after the team’s poor results at the start of the season, most recently a 2-0 defeat against Pyramids in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League “Nile League”.
Micale stated in a TV interview: “There has been no official contact from Al Ahly, and all that has been said are just rumors and circulating talks within Egypt, but they are not true. Coaching Al Ahly is a difficult task and requires great preparation.”
He added: “On the other hand, I was very close to coaching Zamalek, and there were advanced negotiations, but we did not reach a final agreement due to some details.”
Micale concluded: “I love life in Egypt, and I feel like a part of this country… I will return soon.”
