Egypt was crowned champion of the Street Children World Cup held in the Norwegian capital Oslo, with several teams participating using sports as a means to confront injustice and defend children’s rights.
The Egyptian team was selected through the organization “Nafas,” a community organization aiming to rehabilitate and empower youth from marginalized groups and integrate them into society through psychological, educational, and sports support programs.
The selection process for the Egyptian team started 9 months ago, choosing 10 players who trained intensively three times a week to reach the highest physical and technical level in preparation for the world tournament.
The Street Children World Cup was launched for the first time in 2003 and is held annually in a different country. The game rules rely on teams of 4 players per side, playing short matches on small fields.
