Mohamed Salah rejected comparisons made by some Liverpool fans between the departed forwards Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez and the club’s summer signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

Salah’s objection came in response to a tweet by the Anfield Edition account on X platform, which described replacing Diaz and Nunez, who wore shirts number 7 and 9, with Wirtz and Isak as the biggest upgrade in football history.

Salah Calls for Respect for His Former Teammates

The tweet gained wide interaction and reached Mohamed Salah, who rejected its content and reposted it on his account to express his objection, writing: “What about celebrating great signings without disrespecting the Premier League champions?”

Salah’s comment received broad support from Liverpool fans and former captain Jamie Carragher, who had often teased the Egyptian winger in recent months.

Mohamed Salah Receives an Apology

The Anfield Edition account tried to manage the situation after Salah’s comment, which increased Liverpool fans’ anger over the disrespect towards Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. They issued a message affirming their stance while apologizing to the “Egyptian King.”

The account wrote: “While we acknowledge Mohamed Salah’s status, the intention was not to disrespect but to highlight the amazing summer signings. However, we apologize to him. In our opinion, it was closer to being right than wrong.”

Liverpool fans’ anger continued as they felt the apology was insufficient, especially since the controversial post was not deleted, and the message was addressed only to Salah without mentioning Nunez and Diaz, despite the insult being directed at them.

What Did Luis Diaz Achieve with Liverpool?

Luis Diaz, 28, played 148 matches for Liverpool, scoring 41 goals and providing 23 assists.

He won 7 domestic titles with Liverpool before moving in summer 2025 to Bayern Munich for 70 million euros.

Darwin Nunez’s Achievements with Liverpool

Darwin Nunez, 26, played 143 matches for Liverpool, scoring 40 goals and providing 26 assists.

Nunez won 3 titles with Liverpool before transferring in the summer to Saudi club Al Hilal for 53 million euros.
