Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool’s new striker, has found himself at the center of controversy after posting a video while driving, which could lead to a penalty from the English traffic police.
The French forward filmed himself driving a Mercedes G-Wagon on a single carriageway road, first focusing on the dashboard then pointing the camera at his face, before sharing the video on his Snapchat account.
British law strictly prohibits the use of mobile phones or any smart devices while driving, even when stopped at traffic lights or in congestion, which exposes the player to legal accountability once the violation is proven.
The penalties imposed by the law include a deduction of six points from the driving license and a fine of up to £200, a punishment that the young striker may face after the video went viral.
The French player recently participated in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield, a win that placed the Reds at the top of the Premier League table, but his recent traffic issue might steal the spotlight away from his on-field performance.
