In the summer of 2013, Tottenham Hotspur held Brazilian Willian for 8 hours at their training center after he decided not to sign with them and to move to Chelsea instead, sparking anger among Tottenham officials and creating a tense relationship between him and Tottenham fans. Tottenham believed they had secured Willian from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, especially after the large budget freed by Gareth Bale’s transfer to Real Madrid. However, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich intervened at the last moment, signing Willian who had already passed Tottenham’s medical tests. Despite Tottenham’s attempts to block the deal, Willian’s heart was set on Stamford Bridge. He spent 7 years at Chelsea, playing 339 matches, scoring 63 goals, and winning 5 major titles including two Premier League titles.
