Whitaker stated in an interview with the “Newsline” program on the “Newsmax” network on Wednesday: “Trump is the only one who managed to convince Russian President Vladimir Putin to sit at the negotiating table and keep him there.”
He pointed out that “both the Ukrainian and Russian sides managed to reach some low-level agreements, including prisoner exchanges and the exchange of the remains of the dead.” He considered that “this provided the two parties with opportunities to communicate, work together, and build a level of trust.”
Whitaker continued: “I always go back to what Trump says: The United States is the strongest country in the world, we have the strongest military, the strongest economy, and we are part of the strongest and most successful alliance on the planet, NATO. Here in Brussels, we work daily to ensure our allies become stronger and spend their money properly so that no one dares to challenge NATO.”
At the end of his speech, Whitaker noted that Trump “tasked him with coordinating American arms deals for NATO allies to supply Ukraine,” explaining that “the money is European, but the weapons are American, and they are the best available options, supporting Ukraine on the battlefield.”
The American president, who repeatedly criticized his predecessor Joe Biden for allocating billions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine, had previously announced a new plan to arm Kyiv through NATO allies.
Trump explained that the United States will sell massive shipments of weapons to European countries worth billions of dollars, including missiles, air defense systems, and ammunition. Allies will transport these to Ukraine and then replenish their stocks through new purchases from American arms companies. He confirmed that the plan has full approval and will be implemented soon, funded by NATO countries.
It is worth noting that Russia has previously warned that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder settlement efforts, do not change the battlefield situation, directly drag NATO countries into the conflict, and constitute “playing with fire.”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated that any shipments containing weapons to Ukraine will be a legitimate target for Russia, while the Kremlin stated that Western arms supplies to Ukraine do not contribute to negotiations and will have a negative impact.
