Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that there is no division in the influenza vaccine dose regardless of age.
He added that if a person has previously received the vaccine in past years, they only need one dose. The dose is the same for all ages: half a milliliter injected into the front thigh muscle or shoulder muscle depending on age. Those aged 9 years and above require only one dose.
He continued that usually there is no need to repeat the dose within the same season to improve immunity if the person has received their doses properly. He also said that the most vulnerable groups are pregnant women and the elderly.
He explained that the earlier the vaccine is received before winter and the peak of influenza spread, the greater the benefit. It can be taken at any time without harm, but the protection period may be affected.
