Social media app WhatsApp announced the launch of its new “Writing Assistant” feature, an integrated AI-powered tool designed to help users rephrase, proofread, or change the tone of their messages to be more professional or playful, all without leaving the app.
This tool, which uses technology from Meta, fully preserves user privacy; messages are processed and suggested replies generated without Meta or WhatsApp being able to access them, maintaining end-to-end encryption.
The platform aims to provide an internal alternative to external AI tools like ChatGPT, allowing users to get writing assistance by clicking the new pen icon appearing in the message bar.
WhatsApp began gradually rolling out the new feature in English in selected countries starting last Wednesday.
