The National Commission for Transitional Justice reviewed during its first meeting today at the “Dama Rose” Hotel in Damascus the accomplishments of the past three months, in addition to distributing tasks among committees.

The commission’s chairman, Abdul Baset Abdul Latif, told SANA’s correspondent that the meeting discussed the achievements including preparing the commission’s internal regulations and drafting a code of conduct, as well as organizing meetings with several international bodies and organizations, and conducting direct contacts with victims’ families and civil society organizations.

The chairman pointed out that each committee will start forming its working team including members, employees, and administrators, in preparation for the actual work to begin in the upcoming period.

Abdul Latif revealed a plan to launch a national platform aimed at direct communication with citizens, and to allocate phone lines to receive complaints and testimonies from victims’ families, which enhances transparency and ensures effective community participation.

Member of the commission Jumana Saif confirmed that the commission faces a great national responsibility and is committed to working sincerely and faithfully to serve Syrians, aspiring to achieve the justice everyone deserves, noting that the scale of challenges requires doubled efforts, especially given the millions affected by victims and displaced persons.

It is worth mentioning that the National Commission for Transitional Justice was formed by Republican Decree No. (20) issued on May 17, 2025, followed by Decree No. (149) dated last August 28, which appointed the commission’s working team members, representing the first executive step to establish the commission’s entity and start its tasks.
