Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle United, announced the official lineup against Liverpool for the match scheduled at 10 PM on Monday at St James’ Park, as part of the second round of the 2025-26 English Premier League season. Newcastle’s lineup includes: Pope, Trippier, Schär, Burn, Livramento, Joelinton, Tonali, Guimarães, Elanga, Gordon, Barnes. Liverpool’s lineup features: Alisson, Van Dijk, Konaté, Kirk, Vertz, Szoboszlai, Salah, Jones, Jacbo, Ekpitike, Gravenberch. Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2 in the first round at Anfield, while Newcastle drew 0-0 with Aston Villa. The match is expected to have a hostile reception from Newcastle fans towards Liverpool, who are pursuing Newcastle’s striker Alexander Isak. Reports indicate Newcastle rejected a £110 million offer from Liverpool for Isak, who accused Newcastle on social media of not fulfilling promises, while Newcastle stated there was no commitment to sell the 25-year-old player whose contract runs until 2028.
Liverpool aims for a second consecutive win to reach 6 points early in the title race, while Newcastle seeks their first win this season. Egyptian star Mohamed Salah aims to score a goal to surpass Manchester United legend Andy Cole as the fourth highest scorer in Premier League history, currently tied at 187 goals each. Salah may miss six Premier League matches due to participation with Egypt in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco from December 21 to January 18. Salah opened his scoring account this season with a goal in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Bournemouth. He was last season’s Premier League top scorer with 29 goals and also won the best playmaker award with 18 assists.
