Brazilian duo from Newcastle United, Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, faced a significant delay joining their national team camp after the plane carrying them had to return to Amsterdam due to a shattered window during the flight.

The pair were scheduled to join the Seleção under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti in preparation for matches against South Korea and Japan, including a training session on Tuesday afternoon in Seoul.

The players traveled from Amsterdam to Seoul on a Tuesday flight, but after a technical fault was reported, the plane was forced to return to the Dutch capital, according to a report from Globo Esporte.

The players spent about 12 hours in the air before landing back in Amsterdam, prompting the Brazilian Football Confederation to seek quick alternatives. Joelinton was supposed to take a direct flight, while Bruno was to travel on a connecting flight to reach South Korea as soon as possible.

The situation raised concerns for the English club and the Brazilian federation, as long flights may increase the risk of injuries due to fatigue and stress, as well as affect recovery time ahead of Newcastle’s upcoming Premier League match against Brighton on October 18.

Bruno Guimarães, a key part of Brazil’s midfield, is likely to retain his place in the squad for the upcoming World Cup, while Joelinton faces a tougher battle to convince Ancelotti of his place, having not featured in any previous camps since the Italian coach took charge in May 2025.

Despite the difficulties, these matches represent an opportunity for the duo to prove their abilities before the major tournament. Brazil will face South Korea in Seoul on Friday, then Japan in Tokyo on October 14. The players hope their return journey will be less challenging, ahead of Newcastle’s league match against Brighton and hosting Benfica in the Champions League at St James’ Park.
