Good sleep is essential for children to feel comfortable at school and achieve good grades, as lack of sleep leads to decreased academic performance due to low energy and mood disturbances, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The academy added that with the new school year approaching, it is important to eliminate summer habits such as staying up late with friends or browsing social media before bedtime. Early adoption of healthy sleep habits can help students start the school year focused, rested, and ready to succeed. The necessary sleep duration for children aged 6 to 12 is between 9 and 12 hours, while teenagers aged 13 to 18 need between 8 and 10 hours. The academy emphasized that parents should not give melatonin to children to help them sleep well without consulting a doctor.
