Jeddah, 3 September 2025 (WAL) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed Belgium’s announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine and impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation government, considering these important steps as a reflection of Belgium’s firm commitment to the principles of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, especially those affirming the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
In a statement issued by its General Secretariat today, the OIC called on other countries to follow Belgium’s decision to impose sanctions on the occupation within the framework of their obligations under the International Court of Justice orders to achieve justice, ensure accountability, and put an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The organization renewed its call to all countries worldwide that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to declare this recognition and support Palestine’s request for full membership in the United Nations.
