Ambassador Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, stated that Palestine is “in dire need of peace” amid “Israeli atrocities beyond description,” affirming that Palestine remains committed to peace as a goal that must become a shared reality, a commitment expressed daily through choosing “peaceful action” in the face of “heinous Israeli military activities.”
He added during a Security Council session on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank on Monday evening that the world can no longer bear more death and destruction but needs peace and freedom, stressing that “freedom leads to peace, and peace will lead to security and shared prosperity,” describing this as the only path everyone should follow.
He continued: “If Resolution 2334 had been implemented, and if the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice regarding the illegality of settlements in East Jerusalem and Gaza had been adhered to, we would now be living in a reality of peace.”
He praised the unprecedented global momentum witnessed by the Palestinian cause during the Palestinian Issue Settlement and Two-State Solution conference last week, noting that “the whole world rallied behind Palestine to end the war on our people, establish an independent sovereign State of Palestine, and achieve the two-state solution.”
He thanked the “vast majority” of United Nations members who “made history” by recognizing the State of Palestine, taking measures to end the war and occupation, and pledging political, financial, and humanitarian support to end famine and stop massacres.
