The Austrian Embassy in Algeria announced on Wednesday the opening of applications for the “Richard Plaschka” fellowship aimed at highly qualified researchers in the field of history, especially those focusing on topics related to Austria.

According to the embassy, this fellowship offers the opportunity to work as a visiting researcher at Austrian universities, in addition to conducting specialized studies in libraries, archives, and research institutions.

The scholarship targets PhD students, PhD holders, postdoctoral students, and researchers in the fields of humanities, history, and archaeology, with no upper age limit, giving preference to applicants at the beginning of their academic careers.

The fellowship covers a monthly grant of 2500 euros, assistance with accommodation arrangements and health insurance, and some researchers from certain countries benefit from a travel allowance of up to 1200 euros. However, the scholarship represents additional support, requiring candidates to secure self-funding.

Applicants from outside the European Union and the European Economic Area may be required to prove additional resources if the monthly living costs exceed 300 euros and if the stay exceeds six months.

The fellowship duration ranges from 4 to 12 months, with the possibility of extension to 18 months upon positive evaluation. The application deadline is September 15, 2025, with prior contact required with the chosen Austrian research institution. Applicants must not have resided, studied, or engaged in academic activity in Austria during the six months preceding the fellowship start.

This scholarship is funded by the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Research and supervised by the Austrian Agency for Education. For more details, visit: (https://grants.at/en/?=NDI1MTNfMF8w).
