The Qatari under-23 3×3 basketball team qualified for the World Cup finals to be held in Xiang’an, China, from September 17 to 21, 2024. This historic achievement came after the Qatari team secured a top position in the final ranking of the 2025 FIBA 3×3 Asia-Pacific Nations League hosted in Doha from May 28 to June 3, winning the third and sixth stages and finishing as runner-up in the first, second, and fourth stages, earning 520 points. The Under-23 World Cup will feature 20 distinguished national teams including Germany, New Zealand, Algeria, Latvia, Lithuania, China, Poland, Italy, Serbia, Argentina, USA, Croatia, Venezuela, Egypt, and Fiji. The tournament will be played in a group stage format with four groups, followed by knockout rounds starting from the quarterfinals. Group rankings will be based on FIBA’s Under-23 rankings as of January 1, 2025.
Mohamed bin Saad Al-Mughaisib, president of the Qatar Basketball Federation, expressed pride in this achievement reflecting the significant development of Qatari basketball, especially in the 3×3 category, and credited the qualification to teamwork, proper planning, and unlimited support from the Qatar Olympic Committee headed by His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary-General and Director of National Teams at the Qatar Basketball Federation, highlighted the extensive efforts of players and technical and administrative staff, emphasizing the global challenge ahead that requires high focus and preparation. Yaseen Ismail, director of the national 3×3 basketball teams, stated that they have built a strong and integrated team capable of competing at the highest levels, confirming the success of their technical and training plans and their commitment to intensive training and skill development programs to prepare for global competitions.
