Dr. Mostafa El-Farmawy, Director of the Animation Arts Program at the Faculty of Digital Arts and Design at Egypt Informatics University, confirmed that the new program represents a qualitative leap in teaching animation within Egyptian universities, keeping pace with the latest global technologies in this field, from traditional animation through 3D to artificial intelligence techniques.

El-Farmawy stated in a phone interview on the ‘This Morning’ program on Extra News channel that Egypt has a historical leadership in the animation industry since its beginnings with the Frankel brothers, emphasizing that Egyptian artists still form the backbone of the animation industry in the Middle East.

He explained that the program at Egypt Informatics University differs from other university programs thanks to the great focus on modern technologies, specialized devices, and software, which opens the door to preparing a generation of creatives capable of competing regionally and internationally.

El-Farmawy pointed to the importance of enhancing local animation production to preserve the identity of Egyptian and Arab children and prevent them from being exposed to Western cultural influences that may conflict with values, customs, and traditions.

He highlighted that the experience of the ‘Bakkar’ series in the 1990s, in which he participated in character design and directing, was a successful model in consolidating visual and cultural identity and connecting generations to their heritage.

Regarding the debate about the role of artificial intelligence in art, El-Farmawy stressed that it represents a natural extension of the industry’s development and does not pose a threat to it, but it requires regulation to protect intellectual property rights, noting that human creativity remains the most important factor in conveying emotions and sincerity to the audience.
