The Egyptian Prime Minister affirmed that the Shanghai Summit takes place amid a delicate international situation threatening the credibility of the multilateral international system, stressing that the Palestinian people face “all forms of killing, terrorizing, starvation, and blatant violations of their rights” due to the ongoing Israeli war.
During his speech representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held in Tianjin, China, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly pointed out that the civilian death toll from the ongoing war has reached nearly 60,000, with about 119,000 injured, emphasizing that it “is no longer a war to achieve political goals or release hostages but a war of starvation and liquidation of the Palestinian cause.”
He stressed that Egypt strongly condemns Israel’s expansion of its military operations in the Gaza Strip and Israeli efforts to make Gaza unlivable in an attempt to displace the Palestinian people from their land, as well as condemning Israeli practices and violations in the West Bank, especially settler violence and settlement activities aimed at eliminating the two-state solution.
The Egyptian Prime Minister discussed Cairo’s intensive efforts, in cooperation with all partners, to reach a ceasefire, stressing the necessity for Israel to accept the current proposal for a temporary ceasefire during which negotiations would take place on ways to end the war and rebuild Gaza according to the Arab-Islamic plan, in addition to working towards a political process that guarantees the implementation of the two-state solution.
He reiterated Egypt’s firm position on the necessity of establishing a unified Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, which remains the only path to a just and comprehensive solution that restores stability to the region and the world.
The Prime Minister addressed the need to reform the global system and exert efforts to make it more just, as well as the importance of supporting the role of the United Nations in the international system based on international law, expressing Egypt’s support for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s initiatives aimed at supporting efforts to reform the international system to face current challenges and make the world safer and more stable.
He emphasized the importance of radical reform of the global financial structure and international financial institutions, including developing policies of multilateral development banks and providing concessional financing to developing countries to support them in facing the repercussions of international crises, alongside the necessity of finding sustainable solutions to the debt issue.
