Reporters Without Borders stated that Israel deliberately targets journalists and called on the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session to stop this “massacre.” On Monday, 20 Palestinians including 5 journalists and a fire truck driver were killed, and others injured, in an Israeli strike targeting a group of journalists at Nasser Medical Complex in central Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip. The organization strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on journalists. The Director-General of Reporters Without Borders, Christophe Deloire, noted that more than 200 journalists have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza over the last two years.
He added, “Ten years after the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2222, which protects journalists in times of conflict, the Israeli army continues to violate this resolution.” He questioned, “How far will the Israeli army go in its gradual efforts to block information coming from Gaza?” Since October 7, 2023, with US support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starving, destroying, and forcibly displacing people, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop. The Israeli genocide has resulted in 62,744 Palestinians killed, 158,259 injured (mostly children and women), over 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that killed 300 Palestinians including 117 children as of Monday.
