The Exhibition City in the Damascus countryside is preparing to host the 62nd session of the Damascus International Fair, scheduled to start on August 27, following intensive preparations to ensure the readiness of the site and facilities. The completion rate for preparing the exhibition wings and infrastructure has reached between 70 and 80 percent, with comprehensive organization of internal and external spaces to meet the needs of companies and participating entities from various sectors.
The Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the General Organization for Exhibitions and International Markets, Engineer Omar Al-Hallaq, confirmed that this year’s Damascus International Fair represents a pivotal milestone in the history of Syrian exhibitions, as it is held for the first time after the country was liberated from the former regime, posing a significant challenge to the government and concerned institutions.
Al-Hallaq explained that the decision to hold the fair was made after an in-depth study with active participation from various ministries contributing through specialized organizing committees to ensure proper implementation. Most of the wings have been booked by local, foreign, and Arab companies, with the number of participants reaching about 800 companies, including 40 foreign companies, 70 Arab companies, and several joint companies with an international character.
He pointed out that this year’s session will not be limited to the commercial aspect only but will include cultural and entertainment activities reflecting Syria’s new dimension after liberation. An important space will be dedicated to meetings between investors and companies interested in reconstruction and investment files, enhancing economic recovery opportunities in the country.
Sobhi Al-Dali, the head of the internal organizing committee at the Damascus International Fair, stated that preparations for the fair’s launch are progressing at a high pace, with great efforts by organizational teams to ensure the event starts optimally.
Al-Dali explained that work is being carried out professionally and efficiently by active teams aiming to prepare the fair on time. Booking and subscription processes from various local and international companies are ongoing and sorted according to the sectors allocated within the Exhibition City.
He added that the Exhibition City grounds have been divided into several specialized sectors including food, industrial, energy, agricultural, technological, alongside other diverse sectors. Indoor spaces within closed halls and various open and external spaces have been allocated to meet different participant requirements.
Al-Dali noted that the number of international participations has reached more than 20 from various countries worldwide, notably Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, and Qatar, confirming that additional details will be announced later as part of the preparation plan for the fair’s opening.
The Exhibition City in Damascus covers an area of 1,200,000 square meters, including about 70,000 square meters of built wings and 65,000 square meters of open display spaces. It includes international wings, special wings, wings dedicated to sales, a Syrian national wing, and a wing for handicrafts.
