Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich’s coach, emphasized the importance of taking the upcoming first-round German Cup match against Wehen Wiesbaden seriously, scheduled for Wednesday. He highlighted the opponent’s speed in transitions and ability to exploit spaces.

In the press conference, Kompany said: “Wehen is good at counterattacks with just one or two touches and has players with a great sense of space, making them a dangerous opponent. Of course, we are the favorites, but winning depends on how the team handles the match.”

Regarding his team’s ambitions in the tournament, he added: “The motivation is very high, the fans are excited, and we all feel that the cup is not just an ordinary competition. It has been a long time since our last title, so the desire to win is huge.”

On player readiness, the Belgian coach revealed: “If Leon Goretzka passes the final training session, he will be available, and all players who recently participated are also ready.”

Kompany also warned against underestimating lower-division opponents, adding: “Quality alone is not enough. The cup requires more desire and motivation than the opponent, and this is the way to avoid surprises.”

About the young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, he said: “He has developed noticeably, prepared well, and I hope the fans notice that too, especially since he has a great role model in Manuel Neuer.”
