The referees committee of the African Football Confederation (CAF) announced the refereeing team for the Sudan vs Madagascar match this Tuesday evening in the semi-final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN). The Egyptian duo Mahmoud Nagy and Mahmoud Ashour are part of the team, which includes Moroccan referee Mahrez Al-Malki as the main referee, assisted by Jilan Bongili Nila and Joel Wanka Do. Mahmoud Nagy serves as the fourth official, Mauritanian Dahan Bide as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), with Mahmoud Ashour and Cameroonian Karen Atizambong Fomo assisting VAR.
Meanwhile, the main referees committee of the Egyptian Football Association held its first meeting after the approval of the new formation headed by Oscar Ruiz, with Wagih Ahmed as vice president, and members Sayed Murad, Jehad Grisha, and Hayam Baraka. The meeting discussed plans to develop the refereeing system and evaluated referees’ performance in the recent first division league matches.
The Football Association awaits Oscar Ruiz’s decision to approve the technical referees committee, which includes Mohamed Hanafi, Mahmoud Reda, and Mohamed Youssef, to be officially announced.
The Egyptian Football Association’s board approved the formation of the main referees committee for the 2025/2026 season as part of its plan to develop and enhance refereeing. The committee is headed by Oscar Ruiz, with Wagih Ahmed as vice president, and members Jehad Grisha, Sayed Murad, and Hayam Baraka. Dr. Azab Haggag was reappointed as the administrative director of referees.
