Mohamed Sobhi, goalkeeper of the Egypt national team and Zamalek club, thanked the coaching staff of the Egypt national team led by Hossam Hassan for giving him the opportunity to participate in the match against Guinea-Bissau held on Sunday evening at Cairo International Stadium in the final round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
During an interview with On Sports channel, Mohamed Sobhi said: “I thank the coaching staff for their trust in me and for giving me the chance to play the match, and I also thank my fellow goalkeepers for their support during the game.”
Meanwhile, Mohamed Al-Gazzar, the national team defender, said: “My feeling is indescribable with the team’s qualification to the World Cup, and I am honored to be present in the promotion match. Congratulations to the fans.”
The Egypt national team achieved an easy 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in the match held Sunday evening, as part of the tenth and final round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, amid celebratory atmosphere for qualifying to the World Cup.
The only goal of the match came in the 10th minute after a left-side corner kick executed by Zizo with a pass outside the penalty area to Koka, who sent a precise cross into the penalty area, met by Mohamed Hamdy with a header that landed in the right side of the goal.
Egypt qualified for the World Cup for the fourth time, topping Group A in the African qualifiers with 26 points from 10 matches, achieving 8 wins, 2 draws, and no losses.
