The Misdemeanor and Violations Court in Dubai ruled to convict a vehicle driver and another person for causing a pedestrian accident, fining the driver 2,000 AED and the other person 1,000 AED, with a suspension of the penalty execution for three years starting from the date the ruling becomes final.
The case dates back to last March when an Asian driver was inattentive while driving, resulting in hitting another person who was attempting to cross the road from a non-designated area and running a red light, contributing to the accident. The court clarified in its ruling that investigations and technical reports clearly showed the driver’s fault due to negligence of road users and the other’s fault for crossing against traffic rules, confirming that the evidence was sufficient to convict both parties based on the Federal Traffic Law and the Crimes and Punishments Law.
The court added that the circumstances and behavior of the defendants did not indicate an intention to repeat the act, which warranted leniency and suspension of the penalty execution for three years starting from the day the ruling becomes final.
