The crisis surrounding the belongings of the late artist Ahmed Zaki has resurfaced after his lawyer, Counselor Bilal Abdelghani, accused the Egyptian Ministry of Culture of seizing several rare items that Zaki had handed over years ago for safekeeping, intended to be displayed in a museum honoring his memory.
He also pointed out that among the missing items is the cane associated with Ahmed Zaki in his final days, a gift from Jehan Sadat, which was previously owned by the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat, in addition to other belongings of symbolic and historical value. The Egyptian Ministry of Culture has yet to issue any official statement responding to the accusations regarding the disappearance of Ahmed Zaki’s belongings or clarifying the fate of the exhibition that was supposed to include these precious historical items.
These accusations have sparked widespread controversy on social media, as the late artist is considered one of the most prominent icons of Egyptian and Arab cinema.
