The Alexandria Governorate announced the start of the implementation of the El-Horreya Road (Abu Qir) expansion project from the Sidi Gaber area to the Ministry Tram Station. The project includes adding four new traffic lanes, bringing the total number of lanes to eight, with four lanes in each direction, aiming to improve traffic flow in the densely populated areas of Sidi Gaber and Smouha. The work is being carried out in several phases, starting with the first phase from Ibrahim El-Sherif Street to Syria Street, lasting 45 days with three weeks for each direction. In response to citizens’ observations about damaged trees posing risks to pedestrians and vehicles, these will be replaced with suitable and aesthetically pleasing trees such as Jacaranda, Poinciana, and Platform, with aromatic plants like night musk, local savory, and basil added to the median islands.
The sidewalks will be equipped with trees that do not obstruct pedestrian movement, such as Italian cypress, along with Thuja shrubs, bougainvillea, and aromatic plants and flowers, as part of the governorate’s plan to enhance landscaping works according to the visual identity of the roads. The project complements the first phase of improvement works that included the Ghazaltin intersection area, the Faculty of Engineering, and Ibrahimia, in addition to the expansion of Jawad Hosni Street. The governorate urged all citizens and vehicle drivers to cooperate and adhere to traffic instructions and field guidance issued by the executive bodies and traffic management throughout the implementation period to maintain public safety and ensure the completion of the works on schedule.
