Manchester United is monitoring the young Italian defender Pietro Comuzzo, star of Fiorentina, in preparation for signing him. According to Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United sent scouts to follow the 20-year-old player during his team’s match against Nottingham Forest this week and also evaluated him in the friendly match between the Red Devils and the Italian team today. Comuzzo played 44 matches with Fiorentina during the 2024-2025 season, after playing only 6 matches in the 2023-2024 season. He also represents Italy’s under-20 national team and was called up to the senior Italian national team for the UEFA Nations League in November but did not play. Several English clubs, including Bournemouth, Brighton, and Sunderland, have made offers to sign him. In Italy, Napoli made an attractive offer of 30 million euros to sign Comuzzo, which the player accepted, but Fiorentina’s president Rocco Commisso rejected the deal.
Manchester United defeated Fiorentina 5-4 on penalties in a friendly match preparing for the 2025-2026 season. The match ended 1-1 with Simon Sume scoring for Fiorentina in the 8th minute and Robin Gosens scoring an own goal for Manchester United in the 25th minute. Manchester United failed to convert their dominance into goals, and the match ended in a draw, leading to penalties.
