Scottish legend Ally McCoist has warned Liverpool about the way Swedish striker Alexander Isak handled his departure from Newcastle United ahead of his anticipated record-breaking transfer to the Reds.

The 25-year-old Isak is preparing for a medical examination as a precursor to completing his move to Liverpool for £125 million, after pressuring Newcastle’s management to force a sale, despite a previous £110 million offer being rejected last month. He justified his actions by claiming the club failed to keep promises regarding his departure.

According to media reports, the Swedish international has agreed to a long-term contract with Liverpool until 2031, nearing the chance to wear the Premier League champion’s jersey. However, McCoist expressed his displeasure with the player’s behavior, saying on talkSPORT radio: “Isak’s conduct was very poor. It’s natural for any player to want to join Liverpool, but the way he forced his club to sell him is completely wrong and sends the wrong message to fans and young players.”

McCoist praised the professionalism shown by Crystal Palace duo Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, confirming they set an example of professional behavior.

He added: “Isak could have sat down with Eddie Howe to express his desire to move, and if the coach refused, he should have respected his contract, but the way he handled it was very wrong.”

McCoist concluded with a warning: “If Isak shines at Liverpool for two years and then receives an offer from Real Madrid, what would stop him from repeating the same scenario and forcing Liverpool to sell him?”
