The New York Times announced its latest ranking of the bestselling books in the fiction category in the United States, featuring a diverse list including mystery, science fiction, romance, and fantasy. The top five titles are as follows: The first place is “My Friends” by Fredrik Backman, which explores a young woman uncovering the story behind a painting created 25 years ago featuring a small group of teenagers. Second is “Project Peace Upon You, Mary” by Andy Weir, about Ryland Grace who wakes up from a long sleep to find himself alone far from home, with humanity’s fate resting on him. Third is “Atmosphere” by Taylor Jenkins Reid, set in the summer of 1980, where the protagonist Joan Goodwin begins training with elite candidates for NASA’s space shuttle program, entering a world of challenge, ambition, and sacrifice.
Fourth is “You Didn’t Expect That” by Shari Lapena, where doubts arise when the protagonist Brayden disappears from her luxury apartment building leaving her belongings behind. Fifth is “One Golden Summer,” which tells the story of a photographer returning to a place where she spent her youth summer and meeting again the man she admired in the past, in a dramatic narrative blending memories and nostalgia.
