Leeds United opened their Premier League season with a hard-fought victory. Leeds United marked their return to the top flight with a late and deserved 1-0 win over Everton on Monday in the closing match of the first round of the English Premier League. German player Lukas Nmecha scored the winning goal that sparked joy among Leeds fans at their Elland Road stadium, converting a penalty in the 84th minute. Leeds was the better side for most of the match and sought the three points more actively. The referee awarded a penalty after consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) due to a handball by Everton captain James Tarkowski, which Nmecha successfully converted to the left of international goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

This victory under German coach Daniel Farke broke a negative streak against the team coached by Scottish manager David Moyes, achieving their first win after five consecutive matches that included three defeats and two draws. Leeds’ last league win against Everton was in the tenth round of the 2021 season, a 1-0 away victory on November 28, 2020.
