In statements filled with great praise and unprecedented optimism, veteran French coach Claude Leroy described Morocco’s achievements in football over recent decades as a model to be emulated across the African continent. He considered that what Morocco is building today “goes beyond the continent’s borders” and could lead its national team to become the first African team to win the World Cup.
Speaking to the French channel “L’Équipe,” Leroy confirmed that Morocco is “the most organized in Africa for about twenty years,” pointing to the role of the National Football Center in Maamora, Rabat, which he considered the cornerstone of the Moroccan football renaissance, especially in youth player development and the advancement of women’s football.
Leroy highlighted Morocco’s role in hosting many African teams, whether in friendly matches or during preparation periods, emphasizing that the country has always provided a model to follow in infrastructure, capabilities that most other African countries lack.
Leroy said, “Moroccan teams in youth categories have been facing major global teams for years, which gives their players strong character and high competitiveness from an early age.”
In a clear comparison between Morocco and other sub-Saharan teams, the veteran French coach stressed that Morocco is far superior organizationally and structurally, making it today one of the most attractive destinations for dual-nationality players who now see the kingdom as a real football project full of ambition and seriousness.
Leroy did not hide his optimism about the future of the “Atlas Lions,” concluding his statements with a strong message: “I see in the Moroccan national team a serious and ambitious project. It could be the first to carry the African flag and make history at the World Cup. What is being built today in Morocco goes beyond the continent’s borders.”
