The Norwegian Nobel Committee disappointed U.S. President Donald Trump by denying him the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, despite his pressures and claims that he extinguished the flames of 8 wars, the latest being the Gaza war, after Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire and detainee release agreement.

The New York Post reported on Friday that the reason for Trump’s loss was timing; the Norwegian committee responsible for awarding the prize did not deliberately ignore Trump but made its decision on Monday, two days before the announcement of the peace agreement between Hamas and Israel.

On Friday, the committee announced awarding the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, citing her “merit in promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and her struggle to achieve a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

A source close to Trump said his winning the prize would have been a “surprise,” adding that the chance of Trump winning would be stronger next year.

Some critics of Trump pointed out that his controversial actions, such as bombing Iranian nuclear facilities last June, talking about buying Greenland from Denmark, and proposing to rename the Department of Defense to the Department of War, were among the reasons he was not chosen as a peacemaker this year.

Since returning to the White House, Trump pressured the Norwegian committee to give him the prize, repeatedly claiming he ended 8 wars in 8 months.

Last month, Trump said before delegations at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly: “Everyone says I should get the Nobel Peace Prize.”

He also stated last month that denying him the prize would be a “great insult” to America.
