The Egypt Film Commission, affiliated with the Media Production City, signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the Russian organization ‘Moskino’ on the sidelines of the Moscow International Film Week, hosted by the Russian capital with delegations from over 20 countries worldwide. The signing ceremony was attended by Ahmed Badawy, General Manager of the Egypt Film Commission, and Georgy Prokopov, General Manager of Moskino, reflecting both parties’ desire to open broad horizons for cooperation between the two countries in film production, joint promotion, and exchange of technical and artistic expertise. The MoU aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in several areas, including joint promotion of filming locations in Egypt and Moscow, facilitating administrative and technical procedures for international producers wishing to film in both countries, with a focus on making the filming process smoother and more efficient through institutional coordination and logistical support.
It also seeks to exchange expertise and specialized personnel by organizing workshops and specialized training programs to improve human resource efficiency and enhance competitive capabilities. Furthermore, the agreement opens the door for organizing joint promotional and cinematic events such as festivals and specialized markets, serving mutual interests and enhancing investment opportunities in both countries. This partnership is a strategic step towards developing new production programs and incentives aimed at attracting major global production companies and encouraging them to choose Egypt and Russia as main filming destinations. The MoU takes effect immediately upon signing and extends for three years with the possibility of renewal, with a joint working group formed to monitor implementation and periodically measure progress to ensure the achievement of desired goals.
This understanding reflects Egypt’s orientation towards establishing itself as a global destination for the film industry, benefiting from its diverse natural and historical locations and advanced production service network. It also confirms Moscow’s commitment to developing its cinematic infrastructure and openness to new experiences capable of making a qualitative leap in joint production and enhancing the cultural presence of both countries on the global stage.
