The Lebanon U16 men’s basketball team began their campaign at the Asian Championship finals held at the “Bubent Okha Sport Complex” in Mongolia with a commanding 95-73 victory over India, winning by 22 points (quarters: 24-20, 40-34, 61-53, 95-73) on Sunday in a Group A match.

The Lebanese team extended their lead significantly in the fourth quarter after taking control.

Johnny Souma scored 34 points for Lebanon, followed by Amin Nahle with 23 points and Tony Kiwan with 13 points.

The continental tournament features 16 teams divided into 4 groups as follows:

    • Group A: Lebanon, Australia, India, Bahrain.
    • Group B: New Zealand, Philippines, Taipei, Indonesia.
    • Group C: China, South Korea, Mongolia, Malaysia.
    • Group D: Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia.

The four teams that reach the semifinals (Final 4) qualify for the World Cup finals.

Lebanon will face Bahrain in their second group match on Monday, September 1, at 9:00 AM Beirut time, and Australia in their third match on Tuesday, September 2, at 6:30 AM Beirut time.

The team finishing first in each group after the first round advances directly to the quarterfinals, while the second and third-placed teams in each group will compete in the round of 16 to qualify for the quarterfinals.
