Today, the national karate player Abdulrahman Al-Masatfa begins his participation in the World Games combat sports held in Chengdu, China, until the 17th of this month. According to the karate competition draw, Al-Masatfa will start in the 67 kg weight category in group two alongside players Nenad Dolovic from Montenegro, Omar Özer from Turkey, and Yugo Kozaki from Japan. Player Mohammad Al-Jaafari will compete tomorrow in the 84 kg weight category, placed in group two with Konstantinos Mastrogiannis from Greece, Brian Timmermans from the Netherlands, and Ivan Kvisic from Croatia. Both players qualified for the tournament by ranking among the top eight players worldwide in their categories, confirming the advanced level of Jordanian karate. The national team stars aim to add a new achievement befitting the reputation of Jordanian karate, which has risen in stature.
The delegation is headed by the federation president Hassan Masoud, accompanied by the national teams’ technical director Mohammad Fityan, administrative director Firas Hassouna, and therapist Muath Al-Madani. The World Games include sports not featured in the Olympics and are usually held every four years, one year after the Summer Olympics, managed by the International World Games Association under the International Olympic Committee’s patronage. Jordan previously won five medals in the World Games, including three silvers by Mohammad Al-Zoubi (Taekwondo 1989), Firas Al-Jiousi (Taekwondo 1989), Lama Qabaj (Jujitsu 2017), and two bronzes by Taekwondo player Ammar Fahd (1989) and his teammate Tareq Abu Sbeitan (1993).
