American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Israel on Thursday evening to follow up on the implementation of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to Israeli media.

Channel 12 reported that the US delegation landed at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv as part of American efforts to ensure the implementation of the agreement reached early Thursday morning under the auspices of US President Donald Trump, following four days of indirect negotiations in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The agreement, representing the first phase of Trump’s plan, includes an immediate ceasefire followed by a partial withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip to the so-called “yellow line” defined in the maps attached to the US plan.

Israeli government spokeswoman Shosh Badrosian said in a press conference that the Security Cabinet (the “Kabinett”) would meet in Jerusalem to approve the agreement, with a full government meeting to follow for final ratification.

She added that the ceasefire would come into effect within 24 hours of the cabinet meeting, with the Israeli army redeploying to the “yellow line,” which means controlling about 53% of the Gaza Strip area.

Badrosian explained that the first phase of the agreement includes the release of all Israeli prisoners held by Hamas within 72 hours of the ceasefire’s start, including both living and deceased prisoners. She said, “We are preparing to receive them next Monday.”

Israel estimates it holds 48 prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are alive, while Palestinian human rights organizations indicate that more than 11,000 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli prisons, suffering harsh conditions including torture and medical neglect, with many having died as a result of these violations.
