The animated film “K-Pop Demon Hunters” topped the box office in North America during its opening weekend, earning $18 million. Since its release on Netflix in June, the film has become the most-watched animated movie in the streaming platform’s history. Analyst David A. Gross from Franchise Entertainment Research said, “Over the weekend, a work released on a streaming platform and designed for home viewing achieved a level of popularity rarely reached by the most successful theatrical films.” The film “Weapons,” which led the box office for the past two weeks, dropped to second place with $15.6 million. Starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin, it deals with the mysterious disappearance of a group of children from the same classroom. “Freaky Friday” came in third with $9.2 million, followed by “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” with $5.9 million, and “The Bad Guys 2” with $5.1 million.
