The conditions inside Israeli occupation prisons are tragic, with prison administrations systematically practicing the worst forms of repression and abuse against prisoners. A Hamas leader revealed to ‘Arabi21’ that prisoners in the Gaza Strip endure systematic torture including pouring hot water on them, forced nudity, painful restraints for long periods, electric shocks, and denial of proper medical treatment. Since October 7, 76 prisoners have died inside these prisons due to repression and torture, averaging one martyr every eight days. Many reports mention dozens of Gaza prisoners who remain forcibly disappeared without their names being disclosed. The current proposal regarding prisoners includes releasing 1,500 detainees from Gaza arrested after October 7, along with 140 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and 60 sentenced to over 15 years. The humanitarian and living conditions of the prisoners are dire, with the prison administration imposing policies aimed at stripping their humanity, causing chronic diseases and physical and psychological exhaustion.
The Israeli government has committed numerous crimes against Palestinian prisoners through systematic oppressive policies aimed at breaking their will. Released prisoners’ testimonies reveal horrific practices. There is clear discrimination between Palestinian prisoners and Israeli criminal prisoners, with Palestinians suffering severe violations. Female Palestinian prisoners and children suffer the same abuses, with women subjected to special humiliations including forced removal of the hijab and naked searches. The issue of prisoners remains a top priority for the Palestinian resistance, while the international community has failed to pressure the occupation to stop violations against prisoners.
