Swedish center-back Victor Lindelöf has joined English club Aston Villa on a free transfer, the club announced on Monday on its official website.
The “Villans” wrote that “the Swedish national team captain, who has earned 71 caps for his country, will join the club after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season.”
The versatile defender spent eight seasons at Old Trafford, during which he won the FA Cup and the League Cup.
The 31-year-old previously played for Portuguese club Benfica after starting his career in the Swedish league.
Aston Villa finished sixth last season in the English Premier League, just behind Newcastle United on goal difference, with Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League. However, the team coached by Spanish manager Unai Emery will compete in the Europa League.
