Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera, head coach of Zamalek’s first football team, expressed his deep disappointment over the loss to Al Ahly today in the Premier League competition.
He added in the press conference: “We had two chances to score in the first 10 minutes, then the opponent entered the match. We managed to score the opening goal, but unfortunately, we retreated excessively after taking the lead.”
He continued: “In the second half, we started with a late press and had a chance to make it 2-0, but after the missed chance, Al Ahly equalized before taking the lead.”
Ferrera added: “After falling behind, we pushed forward in the last 10 minutes with attacking players to score, and we missed a chance when the ball hit the crossbar in the final minutes. We will work on properly recovering the players for the next match.”
The coach continued: “We thought about making changes before conceding the first goal, and the game was going well. There was consideration to bring on El-Wensh and play with three defenders, but there was no reason to change because the team was performing well.”
Ferrera added: “Seifedine Jaziri is performing well like the other forwards and may participate in upcoming matches, as he is one of the four forwards in the team. The technical staff will decide before the match. We need to rely on two or three attackers.”
He continued: “When the team drew with El Mokawloon, they then won two matches, and after losing to Wadi Degla, Zamalek won two matches. We tried to come back stronger in today’s match against Al Ahly but were unlucky. We aim to come back better in upcoming matches.”
Yannick Ferrera concluded his statements saying: “Regarding the retreat after scoring the first goal, this has happened before, but we always try to score the second goal after taking the lead in any match. We need to talk to the players about this. We faced a strong opponent with an attacking style. We will prepare seriously for the next match, learn from every game, and strive to be better.”
