The French national team secured a significant 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan on Friday evening at Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, during the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

France took the lead in the first half with a goal by Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé at the 45+2 minute mark. In the second half, AC Milan’s Adrien Rabiot added a second goal in the 69th minute. Florian Thauvin of Lens completed the home team’s hat-trick in the 84th minute.

France strengthened its position at the top of Group 4 with 9 points, while Azerbaijan remained at the bottom with just one point.

France’s lineup included defenders Augusto, Saliba, Upamecano, and Hernandez; midfielders Thuram, Rabiot, and Coman; forwards Oulis, Mbappé, and Ikoné.

The qualification system for the 2026 World Cup in Europe states that the winner of each of the 12 groups qualifies directly for the World Cup. The remaining 4 spots will be decided in a playoff in March 2026 involving 16 teams.
