The recently published book “Dawn of Gaza” compiles dozens of testimonies and stories from Gaza residents who lived through the war, documenting their voices amid harsh conditions and communication blackouts. Palestinians believe strongly in the power of words and images; despite the severe circumstances, they continue to record, film, and write. The book was urgently published to preserve these narratives before they are lost. Initially conceived as an initiative to transmit Gaza’s voices from the battlefield to the outside world, it evolved into a printed book. Editors in London, Paris, Amman, Cairo, Jerusalem, and Gaza collected, copied, and translated testimonies between March and May 2024, starting from October 2023 amid internet and phone outages. The book also includes writings by prominent figures such as Mahmoud Darwish, Susan Abu Hawwa, and Ghassan Kanafani, alongside illustrations by Maisara Baroud and archival photos from UNRWA documenting decades of education in Gaza.
Profits from the book are donated to the Palestinian Medical Relief Society. The book encourages readers to seek out and connect with the authors of these testimonies, hoping many are still alive.
