Media personality Amr Adib believes that the reasons behind Zamalek Club’s defeat against their traditional rival Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League derby were not due to bad luck, but rather the team’s refusal to seize a historic opportunity presented to them.

During his program “Al-Hekaya” broadcast on “MBC Egypt,” he pointed out that all factors were in favor of Zamalek this time, but the team turned its back on the chance to win, saying: “Luck was with Zamalek today and did everything for them, but Zamalek kicked it away, telling luck ‘Go away! What is going on?”

He criticized the unjustified defensive style the players resorted to, commenting: “Suddenly, Zamalek’s whole role in life is to clear the ball and play it far away?!”

He questioned why the team willingly gave up its lead against Al Ahly, saying: “I want to know what this defeat mindset in our heads is? What is the idea of Zamalek being winning and telling Al Ahly: No, I say you win, go ahead and dominate?”

He highlighted the condition Al Ahly was in during recent matches, which theoretically should have given Zamalek an advantage, continuing: “Is this the tired Al Ahly? Is this the Al Ahly threatened with relegation? Is this Al Ahly whose players are exhausted?”

He emphasized that Al Ahly was the more dangerous side and capable of deciding the match with a bigger score, adding: “At one point, Al Ahly could have scored 3 or 4 goals,” citing first-half statistics that showed a clear superiority for the Reds with over 60% possession.

He addressed a message to Zamalek players, saying: “You don’t believe in yourselves, you have a great and talented team, and Al Ahly had half its players injured and was playing with players who haven’t played for months or years!”
