Malik Francis, a member of the American Republican Party, stated that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than former U.S. President Donald Trump. He pointed out that President Sisi’s ongoing efforts to support the Palestinian people make him more worthy of international recognition, as he sincerely works to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip and prevent their displacement.
Francis added in statements to the program “Matrouh for Discussion” with journalist Marina Al-Masry on Cairo News Channel that Trump’s insistence on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize reflects his desire for a political and personal reward only. He said, “Trump acts like a child wanting a prize for everything he does, but awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize would be a disgrace to the institution that grants it.” He emphasized that allowing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to commit what he described as “genocide in Gaza” over nine months makes the idea of nominating Trump unacceptable.
Francis confirmed that in recent years, the Nobel Peace Prize institution has dealt with the award from more political than humanitarian perspectives. He pointed out that awarding it in the past to figures like Barack Obama and Yasser Arafat, despite ongoing wars at the time, reflects a deviation from the true purpose of the prize, which is to honor those genuinely striving for peace.
The Republican member stressed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is “the only rightful person to receive this award” because he works day and night for the Palestinian people. Without him, the Palestinians in Gaza would have been displaced. He added that history will record Egypt’s positions under Sisi’s leadership in protecting the Palestinian cause and seeking to stop the war by all diplomatic and humanitarian means.
