After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, President George H.W. Bush announced a new world order. However, after the events of September 11, 2001, American unipolarity changed. Currently, President Donald Trump practices a unilateral approach unseen since the Soviet collapse by turning traditional geopolitical conflicts into geo-economic struggles through imposing tariffs on all who deal with the US, allies or competitors alike. This disrupts global economic balance but underscores the strength of the American economy, which represents 26% of the global economy with a national income of $29.18 trillion. The US dollar remains dominant, making up 58% of global foreign currency reserves compared to only 2% for the Chinese renminbi. In technology, America leads with companies like Apple valued at $3.38 trillion, exceeding the national incomes of France, Canada, Italy, and Brazil. Trump’s suspension of US foreign aid has caused humanitarian crises in countries such as Ukraine, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
He claims to have resolved seven regional conflicts during his term, including Pakistan-India and Armenia-Azerbaijan, linking geopolitics with geoeconomics at minimal cost. Militarily, Trump allocated a defense budget equal to all rival nations combined and initiated the ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense system costing an estimated $500 billion. The ongoing Iran-Israel conflict demonstrates US military reach unmatched by competitors like China. This unilateral American behavior is evident globally, with European NATO leaders seeking US help for regional crises. The question remains: what if Trump manages to unify global unipolarity with domestic unilateral governance?
