Journalist Diaa Rashwan commented on the proposed peace plan, stating that serious moves have indeed begun to transition from the first phase to the second phase of the plan, which includes governance, security, and then the political track in Gaza.

He explained during an interview with media personality Shadi Shash on the program “Studio Extra” broadcast on “Extra News” channel, that the American team, including Kushner, is still present in the region. He added that U.S. President Donald Trump initially lacked full knowledge of the Palestinian reality.

He continued: “Trump thought Gaza was a destroyed or uninhabited area, or inhabited by wild creatures. He said this on the plane and talked about turning it into a smart resort and tourism area, not realizing that people actually live there.”

He pointed out that direct communication with regional leaders—especially Egypt and the eight concerned countries—helped Trump realize the magnitude of the issue, particularly the rejection of forced displacement of Palestinians, which became a clear clause in the American plan.

He referred to a notable statement by President Trump, when responding to a journalist who asked about Netanyahu’s remarks that the war was not over, Trump replied three times: “The war is over, the war is over, the war is over.”

He added that this shift is not due to a change in the U.S. pro-Israel stance, but a late understanding of the reality in Gaza and the region.

He concluded by pointing out that the Quartet Committee—which includes Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and the United States—will not only guarantee the ceasefire but will also be concerned with ensuring the implementation of the remaining plan provisions, including reconstruction, consolidating governance, preventing displacement, and preparing for the political track.
