The Moroccan national team kicked off their campaign at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile with a valuable 2-0 win against Spain on Sunday, in the first round of Group C.

The Moroccan players put on a brilliant display and secured their victory over the Spanish counterparts during the second half, after a goalless first half.

Yasser Zabiri opened the scoring for Morocco in the 54th minute with a quick break finished by a powerful shot that found the net.

Yassine Jassim added the second goal just four minutes later, benefiting from an assist by Othman Maama.

The Spanish team pressed hard in the final minutes and scored a goal in stoppage time, but it was disallowed by the referee after a video review due to offside, keeping Morocco in the lead.

With this win, Morocco earned their first three points in Group C, which also includes Brazil, Mexico, and Spain, one of the favorites to win the title.

Chile is hosting the tournament for the second time after the 1987 edition, from September 27 to October 19, 2025, with 24 teams participating. Matches are held in the cities of Santiago, Valparaíso, Rancagua, and Talca.
