Barcelona women’s team started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a crushing 7-1 victory over Bayern Munich in a match held yesterday evening (Tuesday) at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
Captain Alexia Putellas opened the scoring for Barcelona just four minutes into the game, followed by Eva Bayer adding the second goal in the 12th minute, and Esmee Brugts extending the lead to 3-0 in the 27th minute.
Five minutes later, Clara Buhl reduced the deficit for Bayern Munich, but any hope of a comeback faded when Salma Paralluelo scored Barcelona’s fourth goal before halftime.
In the second half, Bayer scored her second goal and the team’s fifth, before Claudia Pina added two more goals in the final minutes, sealing a harsh 7-1 victory.
This win serves as revenge for the men’s team, who suffered a historic 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
