The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli incursions into Quneitra and the killing of one of its citizens by Israeli shelling, emphasizing Syria’s legitimate and established right to defend its land and people by all means permitted under international law. The statement denounced recent Israeli attacks, including the death of a young man due to shelling of his home in the village of Tarnaja in northern Quneitra countryside (south). It also condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ incursions and arrest campaigns against civilians in the town of Suwaisa (Quneitra), and their continued illegal positioning on the summit of Mount Hermon and the buffer zone. Syria stressed that these aggressive practices represent a blatant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions, posing a direct threat to peace and security in the region.

Damascus renewed its call on the international community, especially the Security Council, to urgently act to end these ongoing violations. Throughout August, the Israeli occupation army conducted four incursions into Quneitra province in southwestern Syria, the latest at dawn on Tuesday, before Damascus announced the killing of one of its citizens in an Israeli shelling of a house. Despite the new Syrian administration, established since late December 2024, posing no threat to Tel Aviv, the Israeli army repeatedly penetrated Syrian territory and launched air raids that killed civilians and destroyed military sites, equipment, weapons, and ammunition of the Syrian army. For seven months, the Israeli army has occupied Mount Hermon and a security strip 15 kilometers wide in some areas in southern Syria.

Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967 and exploited the events of the overthrow of the former regime of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024 to expand its occupation area.
